WOMEN & MENOPAUSE

A DAY-LONG RETREAT TO EMBRACE & HONOUR THIS SACRED TRANSITION

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

“When women come together and make a commitment to each other to be in a circle, especially one with a spiritual centre, they are creating a vessel of transformation for themselves, and a vehicle for change in their world. The essential components are individual women who have the ability to form enduring and deep friendships with other women.”

~ Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen

Your Facilitators:

Leigh Shand – Personal Menopause Journey

Leigh just turned 50 last July. She is a very active person in the throes of perimenopause. She first noticed “the change” after her first COVID shot. For the past several years there have been continued changes in her cycle, and she is currently embracing not knowing when and if her cycle will come. In addition, Leigh is experiencing night sweats (and reduced hours of sleep) and hip pain despite applying Ayurvedic principles and ample stretching. As a serious athlete this comes with its challenges, but Leigh works hard to keep a balance of work, rest and play and ensures she has time each month to slow down, look inward and surrender to less doing and more being. Having lost her mother less than two years ago (at the young age of 76), Leigh feels strongly that aging is a privilege, and she is committed to her wellbeing and longevity and hopes to inspire others as an “elder” of her generation one day.

Professionally, Leigh is a Wellness Coach – trained in Canada and India – with more than 15 years’ experience in Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda and Shamanic Healing. She is also trained as a Naturalist and blends wellness teachings with immersion in nature to create a unique offering. Leigh teaches from personal experience on how to live a balanced life and offers practical tools for her clients. Through classes, workshops and talks, retreats and one-on-one sessions, Leigh supports individuals, corporate and non-profit clients throughout Southwestern Ontario and beyond.

Leigh is well versed in working with corporate groups as she has an extensive background in public relations and marketing across all sectors. In her spare time, Leigh is a Competitive Masters Swimmer, avid hiker and enjoys spending time with her family. Leigh is also a strong believer in volunteerism and is an active Board Member with the Thames Talbot Land Trust and London Silver Dolphins Master Swim Team.

Janet Frood - Personal Menopause Journey

At 61, Janet is embracing being a joyful crone. Her journey to and through menopause has been a winding path. At 35, she had a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. She was left her ovaries but never had a period again. Starting in her mid 40’s she experienced many perimenopause symptoms—hot flashes, night sweats, disturbed sleep, inflammation, weight gain, and heart palpitations.

Menopause peaked during the pandemic, bringing brain fog, mood swings, and a low-grade depression she mistook for isolation blues. A naturopath did extensive blood work and confirmed she was postmenopause. Knowing was a relief. Now, she’s embracing eldership with a sense of purpose, focusing on vitality, and enjoying the 3rd third of her life.

Professionally, Janet is the Founder of Horizon Leadership. She is an internationally certified executive, leadership and team and relationship systems coach. She is a caring and provocative ally for leaders and organizations as they boldly transform. She is also a sought-after workshop facilitator on topics including change resilience, team trust, and courageous leadership.

With a degree in social behaviour and her coaching expertise, Janet is uniquely qualified to help individuals, teams, and organizations confront the status quo, find the opportunity that lives within change, and cultivate conditions for healthy cultures and team dynamics. She is a certified Gallup Strengths Coach and a Certified Dare To Lead™ Facilitator based on the work of Brené Brown. Janet also integrates nature and forest therapy, labyrinth experiences, and story sharing into her work.

Living in Circle by Kristen Roderick

“The circle reminds us that we are not static beings, but in a constant state of flux as we move in and out of activity, in and out of rest, in and out of disintegration, regeneration and re-birth. The circle is a place where we are all included, all contained, and where we all belong. Within the social context of our everyday lives, living in circle could be considered a rebellious act, moving against the tide of the outer world, yet in greater alignment with what we feel inside. When we live from the basis of circle – in harmony with our own rhythms, in relation to ourselves, to others, and with nature – something inside us shifts.”
